Mea Culpa. I'm the culprit here :).
I requested for the meeting close to weekend. It turned out some other new chapters were also in the same boat. Core put us together in the same call, which helped, as our issues are more or less the same. Timing was inconvenient for cagedcactus due to personal reasons. Yet he participated (which we should appreciate). Some veterans also nearly-missed the call as everything got finalized a few hours before the call.
Regarding nearby states, we can try to accomodate Indiana (IN) and Ohio (OH), and my be Wisconsin (WI), the states that border Michigan, that is if they already don't have an active chapter.
U guys look extra charged .. way to go, good luck

similar incident happened to my room-mate, may be little worse.
The airline was aerofloat (russian) in this case.
they boarded aircraft from bombay to ewr. aircraft started running on runway and after some unsuccessful attempts they came back to terminal. with everyone's surprise, the pilot announced that there is a techincal difficulty and unable to takeoff.
Next flight was after 48 hours and that too from delhi. No need to say my friend spend 24 hours also at moscow airport and finally reached newark after 4 days finally. All these with no ground staff at bombay by aerofloat. Being young students, my friend and his groups helped like a coolie to shuttle all other elderly passengers bags to hotel and so forth. He is a very fair person and still doesn't blame aerofloat. He bought the return ticket for 760 with tax, where other airlines used to charge like 1200 or so.
morale of the story: don't blame airindia for all the faults. I am sure there is lot to improve but it is not the only airline where things go bad. This is possible anywhere.
and lastly, the OP who blamed airindia for not allowing duty free stuff bought at NJ at frankfurt - don't blame AI. It is the airport staff of FRA and not AI.
For all those who think that only airindia is bad, go to google and search for reviews of any airline. Chances are very high that you will get such horror stories described by someone.
The OP somewhere has an attitude that he is too important and shouldn't have any issues. Unfortunately the world is not perfect.

As I promised earlier I would keep you guys updated on the process of this case.
On saturday I received the welcome as a permanent resident to USA letter. After trying to get a hold of my attorney I got in touch with him.
Heres the story. (this guy is a genius)
I asked him how it was possible when my PD wasn't current I got GC approval.
His answer was funny and pleasant. Magic :D
He said after the approval of my PERM during filing I-140 under EB2 he also filed a petition under "person with extraordinary ability interest to US" on my behalf. So in other words both the petitions were being processed together at USCIS. Me not aware of USCIS rules wasn't aware of all the lingo so didn't know.
Now the Extraordinary ability petition quota is always current. So when my extraordinary petition was approved the attorney informed the USCIS that to adjucate my adjustment based on this approval. Since the PD was current for this category. USCIS processed and approved the GC based on that. I love this guy I don't have to work for my current employer anymore hence he will get a big surprise when I turn in 2 day resignation. HA...

If this bill text passes, there will be a backlog center for all our I-140/I-485 petitons. We are limited by 90,000. Has anybody found any new relief for BEC candidates?
They are allocating supplemental greencard numbers for Z visa holders with a flexible limit and this supplemental allocation will go away once all Z visa holders adjust (end of page 287 and beginning of page 288).

oh well..I jsut called Congressman's office...she took the place where I am from...she said she wasnt sure what his stand is when I asked her about those bills...
She saod she will pass on the mess age...and she knew I Was calling about the bills when I asked her to tx to someone who handles immi. bills and she said she could help me with that...she was polite..

What is the new expdate on your new card (if you already have it in your hand)? dose the 1 year ext is from the last date of your current/old card? or 1 year from the date the new card was approved.

The "Opportunity" usage has been explained much beyond Hiring in the other laws and related documents. Hence, an employee who subsequently faces discrimination because he/she cannot progress or misses on job advancements due to Visa limit restrictions is certainly being discriminated against.
Its my view and others can differ. I respect all opinions and am thankful to all because it helps improve my reasoning, mutual respect and tolerance abilities.
Back to the subject,

I am in EB2 ADP with PD Feb'09. No cheating there ! :)
I understand that if a lot of EB3 guys, who have been waiting for years, start porting to EB2, they will end up in the queue before me :(. And with that knowledge, I will still support EB3-EB2 porting.
EB3 guys, porting is your best option. I hear a lot of EB2 asking you to go get a new job where they are willing to
a. Hire you with your H1B status,
b. Agree to file your GC, and
c. Agree to do it in EB2 category. (Think about the min wage they have to give and prove etc.)
It is way easier said than done in the current economy. But if you find one, go for it. That is a way of respite for you folks. For others, try porting to EB2 with your current company.
There have been cases where EB3 was filed when the candidate was eligible for EB2 and there have been cases other way round too. But talking about none of them helps your cause. Similarly, fighting amongst us doesn't help either. Don't get me wrong if I say that with EB2 movement, if EB2 becomes current by the end of next year, EB3 will start seeing a good benefit of spill overs. So with current laws, getting EB2 out of the way will actually help your cause
Eliminating per country limit will help everyone. We should fight for that, EB3 and EB2 together.
Seriously try for porting. I have been waiting just a year, and already know how many decisions get put on hold because of this process.

But honestly, what are the chances for this bill to succeed this year (before election)?

-- FBI name check
-- 2 yr EAD
These are all changes that happened because people brought it to the attention of lawmaker and administrators. Before I get complaints, I am not saying IV solely gets credit for it. Whatever the mechanism for change, it happened because the immigrant community worked together and fought to get relief.
We have to continue to work together, otherwise its status quo and be stuck in the mess.
