To get SSN, you need to go to SSA office and apply. It will take 2-4 weeks to get the card in mail. You think it is automatic to get after entry.
Can anybody shed some light on this ? Would really appreciate it.

My I485 is pending. My co-workers' who applied the same time as me already got their green cards. I am planning to go back to my home country in Feb. What if my green card is approved while I am outside of US? In this case, can I still use my AP to come back?

Those who were able to upgrade to premium processing before Jul 2, did you get a new receipt number for the upgrade? Or was the old receipt number valid?

Is core working to get similar bills for HR.5882 and HR 5921 to get introduced in Senate?

Generally you get it within 60 days. You sent only a few days ago, wait until March. If they say 3 months, they mean to say that they approve application within 3 months.

Hi,
I am Vijay Vellabati, finished MS in Dec-06 and I got a job in Jul.
I am in my OPT(Optional Practical training). I did not get to file for my H1-B.
Can my company apply for Green card for me right now.
Because I need to keep my status, my OPT expires in Dec-07.
If anyone can get back to me, I would appreciate that.

Yes, green card is for future employment, your employer can apply for your greencard!!
But usually the greencard process takes so long that it is nearly impossible to get it in a year (the time you have in OPT) so the safe bet is to apply h1b otherwise in US-Masters quota if you have one. And take it from there.

I think we need to expose employers who are taking advantage of us in different ways just because we are stuck with them due to retrogression. This way if we cannot change the legislation right away we can atleast scare the crooks by exposing them so that they cannot trap new people.

Hi gurus,
I need your help, I am due for my H1b first time extension and I have requested my employer for the 1500 dollars "Education and training fee" , I got an email from the New HR personal to show me why the employer have to pay for it , I am trying to find a link to USCIC website where it clearly states the employer has to pay for it.But I am unable to find any thing relating to $1500 education and training fee, I did google search and it shows links from some schools and law firms. I would rather send a UCSIC link to the HR personal. By the way i am filing my H1B via Visa Kit.

USCIS has announced that it is working on a rule to create an electronic registration system for H-1B employers subject to the annual cap. Employers would first register an application and be allocated an H-1B cap number and then would file the case. The idea is that employers would need to register to claim an H-1B cap number first and then if they are selected, they then would prepare and file the case. Can i apply to full time program and if i am admitted, can i apply for change fo status to F1?
